The Black Orchid

Set on the outskirts of the quite village of Sannat, near the beautiful cliffs of Ta Cenc, over looking Comino and Malta, is the unique venue that is The Black Orchid.

The Black Orchid is first cocktail lounge and tea garden in Gozo whose concept offers a meeting of East and West.

The practice of drinking tea dates back to the 3rd millennium BCE in China and came to Europe in the mid 17th Century. The concept of afternoon tea was introduced in England in the mid-19th century by the Duchess of Bedford to provide a brief refreshment for her and her friends.

Traditional afternoon tea is served between lunch and dinner and comprises a selection of sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and fruit preserves, cakes and pastries. The tea leaves from India or Sri Lanka are served in delicate bone-china tea sets. The Black Orchid is a venue where one can truly experience this tradition in a contemporary surrounding.

Cocktails originated as non-alcoholic drinks in the early-19th century. They soon came to be associated with a mixture of spirits, liqueurs and bitters. They continued to develop and grow in popularity becoming widespread in America during Prohibition . Today the art of mixing cocktails has become an essential feature of these classic mixed drinks.

Serve with these cocktails are dishes created by our chefs with eastern herbs and spices which provides an ideal compliment to your drinks.

The venue welcomes children over the age of 8 years old during the morning and afternoon hours of 10am to 5pm.

For health and safety children must be accompanied by an adult for at all times

Due to alcohol licensing regulations, only those age 17 and over are permitted after 6pm. The management reserves the right to refuse entry to person improperly dress, or who appear to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.
